July Newsletter

Hello All,

I hope to see as many of you as possible at the Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s annual 4th of July Concert. The event takes place at Riverfront Park in Cocoa. It is FREE and includes the most spectacular fireworks show on the Space Coast!  The orchestra will be playing such favorites as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”.  And YES we DO stand with our piccolos for the famous solo. The concert begins at 8PM with fireworks starting at dark. Visit the Brevard Symphony website for more details, including how YOU can join the orchestra for a barbecue!

That is the only concert I have on my books for July, but my students and I are hard at work in the studio. Several of my students have taken on the challenge of preparing for the All-State auditions in September. I am so proud of their commitment and focus. And speaking of the studio – WE FINALLY HAVE A FLOOR!  We have been operating with bare cement floors since the studio was flooded out by hurricane Irma. Scott and I are busy re-arranging and bringing the studio back to life.

I am definitely in my mid summer mode. I have been setting my alarm for 5:30 every morning. I am on the beach by 6AM and walk 3-4 miles. What a treat to see the sun rise each day! Plus I am back at the house before it gets too hot. In other items of interest, my mother is almost fully recovered from her car accident. My new garden on the west side of the house was installed last week. It has a built in fire pit, which looks terrific, even though we probably won’t be using it much until the fall.

My son Tom’s school schedule has him going back on JULY 17th!! He will be teaching Algebra ll this year, as well as being the curriculum co-ordinator. He recently went on a bike/camping trip, cycling from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh, PA – over 200 miles! Amazing! It was along one of those “Rails-to-Trails”.

My Washington Nationals are in quite a funk, so baseball has not been much fun for me lately. I am hoping that after the All Star break, the team can reset. The All Star Game is at Nationals Park this year. It will be a great showcase for the team in what is really a beautiful stadium.

Enjoy Summer! It will be over much too quickly!
